Consultancy

I have worked for the following organizations:

I wrote the economics section of Mexico’s country report 2005/second quarter. It was divided into various sections: Economic Policy, Economic Forecasts, The Domestic Economy (Employment, wages and prices: Financial indicators; Oil and gas; Manufacturing; Financial and other services), and Foreign Trade and Payments.

I participated actively with the Policy Analysis and Research Cluster of the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) to prepare the 2006 LDCs Report doing data analysis, drafting sections of the text, preparing charts/tables/boxes, commenting on drafts and the collective quality- control of the final document. I was responsible for sections of the Report on trade and balance of payments, in particular Chapter 7 on ‘Demand Constraints’. I calculated the impact of oil prices on GDP growth in LDCs using different methodologies. I assessed the effect of the decomposition of capital flows on the extended version of the balance of payments constrained growth model. I did background research and policy analysis for the LDCs Report 2007, including drafting substantive analytical inputs and undertaking data analysis for Chapter 1 on ‘Building Technological Capabilities through International Market Linkages’.

I worked on customized studies -Export Potential Assessments, Market Attractiveness and Trade Competitiveness- for individual countries and regions (i.e. ECOWAS, COMESA). These studies required very detailed statistical analysis of trade data at the HS2, HS4 and HS6 levels. The studies contained several tables and graphs indicating the performance of industries, countries as competitors, among other issues. I contributed to the design, implementation and evaluation of training workshops covering: trade flows, business intelligence for export enterprises, market access barriers, foreign direct investment data, strategic investment data, strategic implications of market analysis, coaching of enterprises and institutions in the development of export strategies. I also contributed to the preparation of training and information materials in English and Spanish on trade and foreign direct investment. During the summer, I supervised an intern.

I conducted analysis of manufacturing value added trends by region and income group, and prepared boxes, charts and tables for the 2008/09 Industrial Development Report (IDR). I assisted in drafting parts of the Scoreboard of the IDR and prepared the statistical annex of the IDR. This comprises the detailed data at the country level of all components of the competitive industrial performance (CIP) index.

I developed and agreed the training curriculum with the Ministry of Economic Development (MED) of Georgia and UNDP, which contained several issues related to international trade. I delivered the training workshop to trainees in Georgia in various aspects of quantitative trade policies. I conducted individual consultations with senior management officials of the MED concerned with enhancing the trade capacity of the country.
