Personal Information

I was born in 1973 in Morelia, Michoacán, Mexico. I graduated with honours at the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey-Campus Querétaro (Mexico) in International Trade. I received my MA in Economics with distinction at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (Mexico).  I was awarded the “Silver Medal Alfonso Caso”, the highest distinction for MA. In the same university I was a Lecturer and research assistant from 1998 to 2000; also I worked as a research assistant for the Centro de Estudios Económicos of El Colegio de México (Mexico). In Mexico City I taught at two other universities: Escuela Comercial Bancaria and Universidad Chapultepec. In 2003, I received my PhD in Economics at the University of Kent (UK). Then, I carried on at the University of Kent as a Post Doctoral Research Fellow working on a project, funded by the Leverhulme Trust, analysing the effects of trade liberalisation on the balance of payments and growth in 17 Latin American countries. In January 2006, I moved to Geneva, Switzerland, to work for UNCTAD as a consultant, at the Division for Africa and Least Developed Countries. I worked with the team in charge of writing the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) Report 2006 and 2007. I helped to disseminate the 2006 Report in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, at a seminar for officials from LDCs. Most of 2007 I worked for the International Trade Centre in Geneva. I worked with the team in charge of export assessment studies for developing countries in the Market Analysis Section. During 2008, I prepared various inputs for the Industrial Development Report 2008/09 of UNIDO in Vienna, Austria. I also delivered a workshop to trade officials in Tbilisi, Georgia, on the quantitative analysis of trade policies for the UNDP. Currently, I am working for UNIDO-Mexico’s office on the competitiveness of the Mexican manufacturing sector.

During my professional career I have presented the results of my research at different international forums such as the European Trade Study Group in Madrid, Spain (2003); ECOMOD International Conference in Policy Modeling in Istanbul, Turkey (2003); Università degli Studi Gabriele d’Annunzio in Pescara, Italy (2008); etc.

My main hobbies are aerobics, playing the piano, studying French and knitting.
